        Cloud and edge computing are different, non-interchangeable technologies that cannot replace one another.

        • Edge computing can process time-sensitive data at a specific location. 
        • Cloud computing can process large volumes of data across multiple assets and locations.

        Edge devices get positioned in close physical proximity to the endpoint devices (e.g., sensors or mobile phones) generating the data. Edge computing ingests data generated from nearby endpoint devices, using a machine learning program to analyze the data and direct actions in response to its analysis.

        Edge computing is an alternative to sending endpoint-generated data to centralized servers (on-premises or in the cloud) for processing. Purpose-built devices such as IoT gateways usually house edge computing capabilities. However, sometimes they are housed in the endpoints themselves.

        Edge computing has advantages over cloud computing in remote locations, where there is limited or no connectivity to a centralized location. These remote locations require local storage, similar to a mini datacentre, and edge computing provides the perfect solution. 

        Edge computing doesn't replace the need for centralized servers and cloud computing. Instead, it works in conjunction with these elements to create a hyperconnected world. 

        Hybrid cloud combines both Edge and Cloud processing, giving you the best of both worlds.
